91福利社 hosted its fifth annual Pitch Competition on Thursday, May 15, where 16 students presented innovative business ideas before a panel of expert judges. The event, designed to foster entrepreneurship and real-world problem-solving skills, was organized by Robert Mason, director of the Inland Empire Tech Bridge and sponsored by the Leading Edge Educational Foundation and the City of Moreno Valley.

Kaylena Jenkins won first place and a $2,000 prize for her proposal to launch a re-entry program supporting formerly incarcerated individuals. Isaiah Thomas earned second place and $1,000 for pitching a mobile app that helps users find desirable beaches. Tiara Taylor received third place and $500 for her nonprofit concept, which focuses on teaching life skills鈥攊ncluding budgeting, parenting, driver鈥檚 education, and tax preparation 鈥� through youth workshops.

The judging panel included Interim President FeRita Carter, Laura Dunphy, associate professor of business administration, AS91福利社 Student President Alysha Taylor, and guest judge Ernie Silvers from California State San Bernardino. Winners received City Council Citations presented by Moreno Valley Mayor Ulysses Cabrera.

Mason, who has led the competition since its inception, emphasized its value to students. 鈥淐ompetitions like this uplift student morale and ignite a passion for innovation,鈥� he said. 鈥淭hey are the future leaders of our business world, and we are proud to support their journey.鈥�

The event not only helped students sharpen their public speaking and business planning skills but also built community through support from peers, mentors, and local leaders.
